Four Ways to Lower Your Energy Bill During the Winter Months

Cold air, short days, and the undeniable urge to hibernate can sometimes lead to winter energy bills being higher than average. Here are five ways you can use clean energy to avoid unnecessary bills this winter:

1. Maintain Solar Equipment

Ensure that your solar panels are clean and free from debris. Snow, dust, dirt, and leaves can block sunlight and reduce energy generation.

2. Reduce Your Energy Usage

Upgrading appliances to energy efficient models can help reduce your energy bills. A programmable thermostat can help reduce energy consumption by lowering temperatures when you are not home or while you are sleeping. Lowering the temperature setting on your water heater to around 120 degrees Fahrenheit will also save energy.

3. Insulate and Weatherproof:

Since solar energy generation can be lower in winter due to shorter days and potential snow cover in some areas, improving your home's insulation and weatherproofing can help maintain indoor temperatures and reduce heating demands.

4. Boost Natural Heat:

Open curtains and blinds during the day to let sunlight naturally warm your home. Close them at night to retain heat and reduce heat loss through windows. Switching your ceiling fans to run clockwise at a low speed during the winter will help push warm air that rises to the ceiling back down into the living space, improving overall warmth and reducing the need for additional heating.

Bottom Line

By implementing these tips, you can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of your solar energy system and ensure a comfortable, energy-efficient home during the winter months.
